Zoe Katsilerou

Zoe is a multi-disciplinary artist working across dance, voice, performance and installation.

Her practice includes movement and voice training. It focuses on the relationship between these elements through the use of choreography and text work and her creative process draws strongly on the use of improvisation and studio based research. As a singer, Zoe specialises in traditional, polyphonic Greek and Eastern European songs. Her current project is collecting and recording lullabies from around the world as a protest against cultural discrimination. Zoe often creates installations to go along her performances, as a way of highlighting her observations of the world. She works with forms of poetry, echoes of mythology and movement to reflect on events of the everyday.

Zoe's practice also expands to health and well being with her Holistic Voice sessions. Drawing on pranayama, asanas (hatha yoga poses) and meditation breathing techniques, she encourages her students to listen, observe and discover their natural voice. Together, they work on understanding the ways in which voice operates, explore its past and train its future potentials. Zoe's aim is to nurture her students' voices, help establish healthy habits, build confidence and find clarity in their communication.

Zoe is currently running a youth community group in the south of Glasgow called Theatre at Queens, exploring the theme of journeys and drawing inspiration from the Odyssey.

She studied Applied Music Education at University of Macedonia, and street and physical theatre at Ougka Klara school, both in Greece. In 2016, she completed the MLitt in Theatre Practices at the University of Glasgow, where she undertook practice based research exploring the relationship between movement and voice in performance.

She is an associate artist with Sura Medura, DUENDE and SBC Theatre, as well as a founding and core member of NoVan Theatre group based in Thessalonika (Greece). She works across Europe collaborating with individuals and theatre companies such as Alex Teplin, WHYTE and Third Angel. Zoe also teaches drama, movement and devising at universities and institutions such as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow School of Art, Oldham University, the Aristotle University of Thessalonika, CCA, The Bunbanter Theatre.
